Roblox continues to be lucrative for young creators on its platform, and growing ever more so. The company has announced that its global community is on track to bring in a total of over $70 million in payouts to creators in 2018, over twice the amount earned last year.

“Roblox,” which launched in 2006, claims more than 60 million monthly active players and is especially popular among children. Roblox Corp. announced in March 2017 it’s now cash-flow positive after generating hundreds of millions in 2017 billings. It’s now reportedly valued at more than $2.5 billion following a round of investor funding in September 2018. It raised $150 million thanks to venture capital firms Greylock Partners and Tiger Global, along with existing investors like Altos Ventures, Index Ventures, and Meritech Capital Partners. That’s the largest funding raised to-date, the company said.

Chief business officer Craig Donato said that the sudden flurry of activity was prompted by a very particular boom in growth. Though Roblox has been around since 2005 and has generally seen steady growth since its inception, the last two years have been especially dramatic. This year alone, the community's creators are poised to bring in over $70 million in payouts for games made in Roblox - double the amount earned last year.

Massively multiplayer online game “Roblox” grew 87% year-over-year to $92 million in the third fiscal quarter of 2018, according to market intelligence company Sensor Tower. The game has posted annual revenue growth every quarter since Q3 2015, Sensor Tower said. “Thanks to a strong quarter and consistent growth, ‘Roblox’ has grossed an estimated $486 million to date on the App Store and Google Play,” it added.

Roblox is a platform of over 64 million total users and is mostly targeted toward younger players, who can create characters, structures, and experiences and sell them for other users to play in an in-game marketplace. Part of the reason for that growing amount is a growing community of teens and young adults making content. The number of creators is now at over four million and over twice what it was last year. In 2017, these creators put together over 11 million unique in-game experiences, contributing to a platform total of over 40 million. Keep your eyes on our site for more timely news for Roblox.
